A little bit of publishing news

One of the exciting things about the Reading Room Cafe Project is that it allows us to get involved in some interesting other things, Rachel and I both mainly do freelance work which is always fun, but chasing paid freelance work can be a full time job in itself.

What the project does is push us into other areas of interest. A perfect example of this is that we both love to read and find, though e-books are infinitely more convenient and give you access to a massive range of work instantly, a physical book can’t be beaten. Once you couple this with the recent success of our writing competition and the fun we had working with the fantastic printing company we found, there is a whole world of possibilities, new avenues of bookness for us to explore.  So what we’ve done is start our own self publishing company.https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/EmmasAtticPublishing

That means we sort out the ISBNs and the admin and edit and format the books for people and they get their own book!  We’ll also do the sending off of promotional free-bees to bloggers and reviewers and bookshops.  I looked at having a self publishing company handle Tacky the Dolphin for me but they were all much more expensive (£1200-£2500) and there wasn’t any editing or promotion included.  I obviously don’t make a very good capitalist, but I think this will be good fun.

What do you think?  Is there anything else you think we should include?  Do you know of anyone else doing something similar?  Are you a self publishing company with any tips/ comments on my ingenious/ terrifyingly naive plan?  All comments are welcome
