Writing When You’re Unwell

I’ve got a horrific cold at the moment, I don’t know how people who are genuinely unwell, properly ill, can cope.

There are people who write when they’re in huge pain, when they’re off their faces on medication, when they have fore-knowledge of their own approaching demise.  How do they manage?

Could it be that they glean comfort from the work?  Is there any chemical reason for writing cheering us up?  Is a state of creative flow really able to induce happiness?  if that’s the case, then writing could actually make you feel physically better – your emotional health effects your immunity. https://www.psychologies.co.uk/self/the-link-between-emotions-and-health.html

A creative outlet can also improve your mental health, any creative outlet – writing like mine, or painting like my mother’s, or cooking like my cousin’s.  The act of creativity according to creativity researcher Dr. Shelley Carson, “Increases in positive mood broaden attention and allow us to see more possible solutions to creative problems.”
